Sign on to support the Arizona Department of Housing (October 20, 2011)

Support the Arizona Department of Housing

Please join the sign on campaign in support of the Arizona Department of Housing.

Last year, the Arizona Department of Housing underwent its Sunset Review, a process whereby the Legislature reviews state agencies every 10 years. The Department was continued for only one year and will be revisited in the next legislative session to obtain the full 10 year renewal. Community support is essential in carrying the messages below forward!

The Department ensures access to federal funds and keeps control of those funds under one efficient and transparent agency that has demonstrated an expertise in housing issues as proven by the recent exceptional audit by the Auditor General

The Department is a self sustaining agency that receives no general funds while administering over $350 million of federal houisng and community development funds each year. These federal funds leverage private capital dollars and spur economic development throughout Arizona.

The Department provides equity to rural areas

Since 2002, the Department invested over $109 million of federal Community Development Block Grant dollars into Arizona's rural communities targeting community development, infrastructure improvement, and addressing other various community needs.

The Department administers the State Housing Trust Fund, the only state resource devoted to addressing Arizona's housing-related needs

Prior to state budget cuts from $33 million to $2.5 millioin, the Housing Trust Fund acted as a magnet for private venture capital invement in our rual areas and helped 14,000 low income seniors and families each year avoid homelessness, repair dilapidated homes, and become first time homebuyers

All Arizonans deserve to be safe, healthy, and have a decent place to call home. Please support the Arizona Department of Housing and their efforts to provide the vital resources to those most vulnerable individuals in our great state

The Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness, The Arizona Housing Alliance, and the Valley of the Sun United Way have collaborated on the efforts to garner community support for the Arizona Department of Housing.
