Supportive Housing

Supportive Housing provides an annual cost savings of $39,800/year and
keeps a family intact, stable and living independently.
Supportive housing combines permanent, affordable housing with supportive services for tenants.
Supportive housing:
- Is safe, accessible, of good quality, and is integrated into the community.
- Allows providers the flexibility to tailor services to the needs of the tenant.
- Assists families and individuals in making the transition to independent living.
- Builds the capacity of parents to nurture and care for their children.
- Encourages productive participation in community and society.
- Includes a variety of mental health, academic, social, recreational, and child care services to
meet the needs of children.
- Supports recovery and sobriety.
How is supportive housing effective?
Supportive housing:
- Enables families and individuals to attain housing stability - ending the cycle of homelessness,
- Is cost effective as shown by the research, and
- Leverages large amounts of federal funding. The majority of supportive housing funding
comes from federal sources, but requires local matching funds.
